At the recent BBC Radio Merseyside by-election debate, Conservative candidate Sean Houlston stood out for offering a pragmatic and optimistic vision for Runcorn and Helsby.
On regenerating the area, Sean emphasised the need for a long-term vision and pledged to use his business background to attract fresh investment into town centres like Runcorn Shopping City. "We need a plan that brings in opportunity, not just commentary," he said, responding to calls for action rather than abandonment.
On the controversial issue of bridge tolls, Sean made clear he opposed any increases, backing residents and businesses who depend on affordable connectivity across the constituency.
When asked what his first priority would be as MP, Sean spoke of unity and empowerment.
While others debated national issues or traded criticisms, Sean kept the focus on local people. He rejected divisive narratives and affirmed his campaign’s commitment to facts and positivity. “When people raise concerns, we get to the bottom of them—and we act,” he said.
And as for the bigger picture? Sean reminded listeners that this was not about national headlines but about choosing a strong, committed local MP. “This isn’t a general election or an opinion poll. It’s about who will fight for our area—day in, day out.”
