Sean Houlston Attends Backing Business Meeting with Shadow Business Secretary and Former Business Minister

Sean Houlston attended a Backing Business meeting with former Business Minister Dean Russell and Andrew Griffith MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Business and Trade, to discuss how Conservatives can better support businesses, entrepreneurs and wealth creators.

The discussion focused on the central role business plays in driving growth, creating jobs, supporting communities and funding public services. Sean argued that Conservatives must once again become the natural home for enterprise by backing those who take risks, employ people and invest in their local areas.

Speaking after the meeting, Sean said:

“Business is not a side issue. It is the engine of prosperity. Without successful businesses, there are no jobs, no growth and no money for the public services people rely on.

Conservatives should be unapologetic about backing business, cutting red tape and making it easier for people to build, employ and invest.”

The Conservatives' Backing Business campaign sets out a range of pro-enterprise ideas, including scrapping the Family Business Tax, abolishing business rates, cutting red and green tape, making IR35 fairer, improving business banking and transforming HMRC from a predator into a partner.

Sean added:

“Whether it is a small shop, a family firm, a construction business or a growing start-up, government should be helping enterprise, not holding it back. We need a serious Conservative offer that rewards work, investment and ambition.”

The meeting formed part of a wider conversation about how the Conservative Party can rebuild trust with business and put economic growth back at the heart of its agenda.
