Sean Houlston, former Parliamentary Candidate and Deputy Chairman of Congleton Conservative Association, has welcomed the announcement by James Cartlidge MP of the Conservative Party’s bold new Homes for Heroes plan to create an Armed Forces Housing Association.
Sean Houlston said:
“I am proud to support this announcement. Our armed forces and their families give everything for our country—the very least they deserve is high-quality, secure housing that supports their service and strengthens morale.
"With a professional background in housing and construction, I know first-hand the importance of well-managed, purpose-built accommodation. The creation of an Armed Forces Housing Association is not just the right moral choice—it is the right strategic one too. It puts families at the heart of the solution through a dedicated oversight board and ensures that funding is protected and targeted effectively.
"Good housing is not just a welfare issue—it’s a strategic imperative for retention, readiness, and respect.”
The proposed Armed Forces Housing Association will lead a programme of estate redevelopment, bring in shared ownership options for service personnel, and guarantee that funds intended for housing are spent accordingly—something Labour has failed to do.
This policy shows the Conservative Party is serious about strengthening national defence by standing firmly behind those who serve.
