Conservative Candidate for Runcorn and Helsby, Sean Houlston, has pledged to tackle anti-social behaviour across the constituency, starting with a crackdown on the growing problem of illegally modified electric bikes (E-bikes) in local communities.
As part of his campaign to deliver safer streets and restore pride in the area, Sean Houlston has written to the Chief Constable of Cheshire Police raising concerns about the increasing use of E-bikes that have been tampered with to exceed legal speed limits. These vehicles are often ridden without insurance, helmets, or licences and frequently by individuals wearing balaclavas to avoid identification.
Residents in Runcorn, Sandymoor, Frodsham and Helsby have reported a rise in dangerous riding and intimidation in public spaces, with fears growing that these bikes could be used in criminal activity or cause serious harm.
Conservative Candidate for Runcorn and Helsby, Sean Houlston, said:
“This is about making our streets feel safe again. Whether it’s central Runcorn, the paths and parks of Sandymoor, or the high streets of Frodsham and Helsby, residents are telling me the same thing – they’re fed up with dangerous behaviour going unchecked.
“The rise in illegally modified E-bikes is just one example of that, and it needs to be tackled head-on. We need to support policing, stronger local partnerships, and the confidence to say this kind of behaviour won’t be tolerated in our communities.”
In his letter, Sean Houlston has called for the creation of a dedicated task force made up of Cheshire Police, local authorities and community leaders to tackle the issue through both targeted enforcement and public engagement.
