Sean Houlston has called for greater support for British farming and innovation following a recent visit to modern glasshouse facilities in Nantwich.
During the visit, Sean explored the growing role of hydroponics, vertical farming and modern horticultural technology in strengthening domestic food production and improving long-term food security.
Sean said the experience demonstrated how innovation and advanced growing techniques could play a major role in helping Britain produce more of its own food while supporting economic growth and reducing reliance on imports.
Sean Houlston said:
“I recently had the opportunity to visit glasshouses in Nantwich and see the potential of hydroponics, vertical farming and modern horticultural technology.
"Britain is serious about food security, we need to back our farmers, grow more and not be afraid of innovation.
"The future of food production will require both traditional agricultural expertise and new technologies working side by side. Britain should be leading the way in modern horticulture and controlled environment agriculture.”
Sean added that investment in skills, infrastructure and innovation would be essential if the UK is to build a more resilient and self-sufficient food system for the future.
