Sean Houlston has been in London meeting with contractors and industry representatives to discuss the future of the Restoration and Renewal programme for Palace of Westminster and the wider opportunities it presents for Britain’s construction and heritage sectors.
The discussions included contractors from areas including Ironbridge and Stoke-on-Trent, with a focus on balancing the need to protect one of Britain’s most significant historic buildings while ensuring value for taxpayers.
Sean said the programme has the potential to support specialist skills, heritage trades and supply chains across the country if delivered properly.
Sean Houlston said:
“The restoration of Parliament will support Britain’s heritage, specialist skills and supply chains.
"I’ve been in London discussing restoration and renewal with contractors from Ironbridge, Stoke-on-Trent and beyond.
"The challenge is delivering the project properly while keeping costs low. That means focusing on practical delivery, using British expertise and ensuring the programme creates long-term value for communities and businesses across the country.”
Sean added that major national projects should be used to strengthen British industry, preserve specialist heritage skills and create opportunities for future generations entering the construction and conservation sectors.
