Local businessman, community campaigner and charity volunteer Sean Houlston has been selected as the Conservative candidate for Sandbach East and Central in the May 2027 Cheshire East Council elections alongside Conservative Town Councillor, Tim Wheatcroft.
Sean has lived and worked across South Cheshire throughout his career and currently serves as a director at a national business organisation representing the SME construction and heritage building industry, where he works nationally with businesses, policymakers and industry leaders on economic growth, skills and infrastructure.
Alongside his professional career, Sean has built a strong record of public and community service. He sits on the board of The Learning Partnership Multi Academy Trust, which supports schools across Cheshire East, serves as a Governor at Reaseheath College, and has previously been a trustee of St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice. He has also been actively involved in fundraising and community initiatives across the area for many years.
Following his selection, Sean said:
“Sandbach is a fantastic town with a proud history, strong community spirit and huge potential for the future. I am honoured to have been selected as the Conservative candidate for Sandbach East and Central.
“This campaign will focus on the issues that matter most to local residents: protecting the character of our town, getting infrastructure right, supporting local businesses and delivering better value for taxpayers.
“People are frustrated at paying more in council tax while seeing basic services decline. Residents want councillors who will focus on the essentials, listen to local people and stand up for Sandbach.”
Sean has already begun engaging residents across the ward through local surveys on issues including proposed changes to bin collections and the future location of the new Sandbach banking hub.
A strong supporter of heritage and town centre regeneration, Sean has also pledged to champion Sandbach’s independent businesses and hospitality sector, while protecting local landmarks and green spaces.
He added:
“From the Sandbach Crosses to the Old Hall, our heritage is part of what makes this town special. We need councillors who understand that growth must work alongside community identity, not against it.
“I also want to ensure that housing developments come with the roads, GP provision, school places and infrastructure needed to support them. Residents are right to be concerned about developments being pushed through without proper town planning.”
